“Blueberries for Eyes” was created as a part of a collaborative art show in 2015-16: “Tunes 21″ @ 4th Street Vine in Long Beach, California. Each artist in the show was given a New Orleans’ based musician and song title to work with. I was given Louis Armstrong’s classic rendition of Blueberry Hill. I was experimenting with crockery set in a mortar bed and tried setting the pieces so they would be interlaced, disclosing the interstices. An unusual piece for me, but I liked the result. It has presence, resembling a mask and feels as if it has African folk influences, which is appropriate for a New Orleans inspired piece.
