This mosaic began with a simple story about barn swallows that would appear while the client mowed the lawn. They would circle overhead to eat the bugs that were stirred up by the mower. We were left with the charge to create something that would be unique, but simple enough to fit with the surrounding subway tile. By framing in the mosaic we separated it from its field and used the white subway tile in a circling fashion in the mosaic to tie it together. The final result was a mosaic that has great motion and playfulness, while fitting within the clean lines of this kitchen setting.
